What was your first job as a journalist?
I applied to journalism school and profiled a local butcher who gives his animals names before he kills them (I'm a vegetarian, it was hard).
How is social media changing news?
Journalists aren't gatekeepers any more. We get factchecked and criticized all the time. That's tough, but also a chance to improve our work.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Inoreader for RSS feeds, Nuzzel, Reddit, Tweetdeck, Pinboard, OSINT tools for research, Signal, Standard Notes as an encrypted editor.
What's your favorite social network?
I use Twitter the most. But it's tough to call a platform my "favorite" that has been failing to deal with hate and racism for years.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Don't study journalism. Study whatever you're interested in and just write all the time (or do podcasts, produce videos, whatever).
What's your favorite drink?
I'm fine with water and a glass of Italian red wine.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In my bed (sleeping), on my couch (reading), or in the nature (hiking, biking, walking, swimming).
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I rather follow individual writers. I really admire Maciej Cegłowski, Taylor Lorenz, John Herrman, Craig Mod, Zeynep Tufekci and many more.
