1 Introduction Irrigation constitutes the primary anthropogenic activity responsible for global water appropriation, accounting for approximately 70% of freshwater withdrawals, particularly within intensive agricultural systems (Stevens et al. 2021). This scenario becomes especially critical in semi-arid regions, where irregular rainfall patterns intensify reliance on artificial water sources for agricultural production (Chapagain and Hoekstra 2004; Vanham and Mekonnen 2021).

Abstract Objective: The objective of this study was to design a Water Quality Index (WQI) sensitive to the limits established by current legislation, focusing on the sustainable management of urban water bodies.
