An estimated 4.7 million people in Afghanistan are projected to face emergency levels of food insecurity in 2026, more than double the number recorded the previous year, as hunger, drought, displacement and economic hardship increase pressure on families’ mental health and ability to cope, according to an analysis published Friday by the REACH Initiative. The analysis projects that 17.4 million people will face acute food insecurity this year.

The Taliban intelligence entered the MOBY Group compound in Kabul on Wednesday and shut the offices of Lapis, a company affiliated with the media group, sources familiar with the incident said. The sources told Amu TV that about 15 members of the Taliban intelligence agency entered the compound before going into the Lapis offices. They inspected employees’ mobile phones and ordered staff to leave before sealing two Lapis offices inside the compound.

The World Health Organization reported sharp increases in several infectious diseases in Afghanistan in July, including dengue fever, COVID-19, acute watery diarrhea and respiratory infections, as seasonal outbreaks and resource shortages continued to strain the country’s health system. WHO recorded 473 suspected dengue fever cases in July, an 85.5% increase from 255 in June. No deaths associated with dengue have been reported since January.
