Sk Badiruddin’s Biography
Sk Badiruddin is a translator, fact-checker & former media professional based in Kolkata, India. He has been worked with various media platforms across digital media, print, television & radio for nearly a decade.
His latest 4-year (April 2019-May 2023) stint was as a fact-checking correspondent at BOOM, India’s leading fact-checking site. He has covered misinformation and disinformation, reporting on various issues—local, national and global events.
The following events were India’s General elections (2019), Pulwama attack (2019), Anti-NRC-CAA Protests movement (2019-20), Delhi Riots (2020), West Bengal’s Legislative Assembly election (2021), Indian farmers' protest (2020-21), Covid-19 Pandemic, Taliban takeover in Afghanistan (2021), communal violence in Bangladesh (2021), Uttar Pradesh’s Assembly Elections (2022), ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, outreach campaign by India’s opposition party Indian National Congress (2022-23), Karnataka’s Assembly Elections (2023) and Odisha’s Tripple-Train Accident (2023) etc.
He joined as an intern at BOOM in April 2019, and was fortunate to be part of the expansion drive of its Bangla team (the oldest IFCN recognised fact-checking site in the Bangla language) and Bangladesh wing. Prior to that, he had worked with TRID India, as a Bangla translator, contributory science news writer for Akashvani Kolkata and a culture writer for a small-scale newspaper. His journalism career started with a brief internship with a Bangla television channel as district desk assistant in 2015.
He was a 360/Digital Sherlock fellow for the Fall Program in 2021, under The Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab (DFR Lab). He has participated in an eight-week long virtual course titled “Stemming the Tide of Intolerance: A Network of South Asian Journalists to Promote Religious Freedom” hosted by the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) in 2021.
