Matt Shakman has been tapped to helm the next installment in the Planet of the Apes series for 20th Century Studios, according to a report from Deadline. Shakman, who recently directed Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps and earned acclaim for the Disney+ series WandaVision, will take over directing duties on the yet-untitled project. The film is part of the studio’s continued expansion of the rebooted Apes universe, following 2024’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Walt Disney Animation Studios Tangled was a massive success in 2010 and while a sequel never materialized, a sequel series on Disney Channel ran for a few seasons. Well, according to the films director, Nathan Greno an actual sequel was discussed but never materialized. “We actually did an off-site at Disney, and we got the original team together, and we really all talked about it for hours, and we kind of walked away saying, ‘We couldn’t find a story worth telling,’” the director told The Direct.
