The unseen emotional toll of being a physician
Many of the physicians who come to my therapy practice share a quiet, painful fear. They’re already excellent clinicians. They know the medicine, stay up to date on the literature, and often find deep meaning in their work. But they’re worn down by the emotional toll of sitting with suffering day after day. They start to wonder: Why is this hitting me so hard when everyone else seems fine? Am I too emotional to be a doctor? The answer is no.
4 traits every new attending physician needs to thrive
When I conduct therapy for doctors after residency, I am supporting new attending physicians as they navigate one of the most intense and disorienting transitions of their careers. These early attendings often arrive feeling untethered. They’re rediscovering who they are, working through long-ignored anxiety, stepping into their authority, and trying to build lives that don’t begin and end with medicine.

02/20/2024, Melbourne // KISS PR Brand Story PressWire // By Sarah Epstein The digital age has undoubtedly brought many benefits to our lives, making information and communication more accessible. However, there’s a downside to our constant connectivity: our attention spans are shrinking. In this article, we’ll explore how technology affects our attention spans, the impact of screen time on our ability to focus, and how meditation can help counteract these effects.
When Parents Cannot Say No to Their Adult Children Original
Much is said about parents who struggle or refuse to respect their adult children’s boundaries, asking unwanted questions or offering unsolicited advice. But there is another type of boundary issue that creates ongoing struggles in families. Some parents struggle to set their own boundaries with adult children. In contrast to the parent who hates to hear no from their adult child, this parent never says no themselves. What can this look like?
Successful life after residency: 6 key ways to recover and thrive
As a therapist and physician spouse who works with physicians and physician couples, I’ve seen the excitement and difficulty of exiting medical training and becoming an attending. The shift is a celebratory culmination of the physician’s hard work and a jarring transition with its unique challenges. Here are six things a new attending can do to recover from their residency experience and build a thriving next chapter. 1. Process the impact of training.
What appliances have a permanent residence on your kitchen counters?
Keurig, Microwave, Popcorn maker and Blender. The Keurig and microwave are the only ones we use daily and they stay where they are. We have a cabinet opening above a small pantry for the microwave, so technically the microwave isn't on a counter but on a cabinet, when we had to get a new one we went for a smaller one and now the popcorn maker stays beside it and is pulled out and used quite often.

Yes, You Matter
By Psychology Today Contributors published January 5, 2021 - last reviewed on January 12, 2021 Jennifer Tapias Derch, used with permission Everyone wants to feel validated. Who doesn't want to be seen and heard? Yet, much of the time, you may well feel just the opposite—you may feel judged, denied, or completely ignored. You want to matter.
Never say these 2 words to somebody in pain
When we see a loved one moving through a painful time in their life, we may want to help them make meaning of their experience and mitigate their pain. At our core, we are meaning-makers. We live through and then interpret the events of our lives, bringing order to our experiences. When we endure pain and unhappiness, we find ways to frame and understand it and sometimes even find value in it. That process is integral to moving through and living with the experiences.

Interview with Sarah Epstein, Author of 'Deep Water'
Most writers put a lot of thought into their work. You don’t sit with a project for over 70,000 words and not think about its construction, what drives the story forward, how the questions you raise are going to be answered, and if those answers are going to be satisfying to the reader. With that being said, Sarah Epstein’s consideration and understanding of how exactly her books are constructed is on an entirely different level.

NBA CJ McCollum's passion for journalism grows
Some people dream of becoming a professional basketball player. Some, a journalist. Some, both. When CJ McCollum, ’13, transferred from the The College of Business and Economics to The College of Arts and Sciences to major in journalism as a sophomore, he wasn’t just in it for the degree. He loved being able to tell stories and get to know people in new ways. He knew he wasn’t going to give up that aspect of his life once he graduated.

Anti-Semitic incidents increase in Lehigh Valley
Rabbi Michael Singer was conducting a funeral service at the Congregation Brith Sholom Cemetery in Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania, in the fall of 2018. As the family was grieving and burying their mother, a car carrying four men pulled up to the grave site on the South Side of Bethlehem. The windows slowly rolled down. Then came the shouting. “You f***ing Jews,” they said. “I hope you all die.” On Oct.

New Thriller 'Cam' Throws Out Sex Worker Tropes And Makes A Cam Girl The Hero
Most sex workers in movies are victims of circumstance, exploitation, coercion, and desperation. Their careers are a last resort. They live on the margins. We definitely don’t root for them to stay in the industry. But Netflix’s new psychological thriller, Cam, created and written by former sex worker Isa Mazzei, directed by Daniel Goldhaber, produced by Blumhouse (the same folks that brought you Get Out) throws out all those tropes, and is a refreshing breath of fresh air.
High school athlete donates to cancer research
The whistle blows, but the chains don’t budge. After failing to convert on third down, the Allentown Central Catholic High School football team’s offensive players jog off the field, replaced by the special teams unit. The whistle blows again. This time, the ball is snapped to the placeholder, who perches it perfectly on the damp turf below. The ball is kicked, flying high between two neon yellow goalposts, once again hitting the turf, but this time far beyond the end zone.

I’ve always been hooked on sports. Growing up in Boston, it’s not hard to say why. Boston teams have won 11 championships in my lifetime, and each one has fueled my passion a little bit more. In second grade, while all of my friends were princesses, singers or movie characters for Halloween, I dressed as Nomar Garciaparra. No one ever told me I couldn’t. Until they did. Every female sports fan I know has had the same experience.
Football dominates Lafayette in 154th meeting of The Rivalry
In the 154th meeting of college football’s longest-played rivalry, Lehigh defeated Lafayette College 34-3 at Fisher Stadium in Easton, PA. Senior running back Dom Bragalone was named the game’s MVP. Lehigh (3-8, 2-4 Patriot) got the scoring started on the first snap of the game. Lehigh defensive lineman Julian Lynn forced a sack-fumble by Lafayette quarterback Sean O’Malley, and Lehigh defensive lineman Davis Maxie returned the ball for a touchdown.
Game preview: The 154th meeting of The Rivalry
Game Info: The Lehigh football team (2-8, 1-4 Patriot) will travel to Easton, Pennsylvania, to take on the Lafayette Leopards (3-7, 2-3 Patriot) at Fisher Stadium. The game will be the 154th time the two foes meet. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. Lehigh’s previous game: After getting its first win in eight weeks versus Bucknell on Nov. 3, Lehigh once again fell short in a loss versus Colgate on Nov. 10. The undefeated Patriot League champions defeated the Mountain Hawks in their home stadium 48-6.
Why will Lehigh win the 154th Rivalry game?
It’s no shock to say that both Lehigh and Lafayette have had disappointing seasons. At 2-8 and 3-7 respectively, neither team has performed at the caliber in which they are capable. In Patriot League play, it’s been another dismal story with the Mountain Hawks entering the game at 1-4 and the Leopards not much better at 2-3. Let’s be real — this game is not going to be pretty. It’s probably an advantage to be the away team, to be perfectly honest.
Trembley Park will remain open in 2019-2020 after students express concern
The president’s office sent an email to students around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday announcing that Trembley Park will remain available as an on-campus housing option for upperclassmen through 2020. Concerns about on-campus housing came after Housing Services sent an email to rising juniors and seniors on Monday stating there would be no on-campus housing available to them for the 2019-2020 academic year. Student Senate held a forum on Oct.

Volleyball loses 3-2 heartbreaker to American
Lehigh volleyball was defeated by American University 3-2 on Oct. 9 in front of a loud crowd in Grace Hall. Nazareth, Northampton break into this week's field hockey rankings
October has finally arrived, but the start of a new month hasn’t brought up a new No. 1 in the field hockey rankings. Emmaus sits undefeated at 14-0 and defeated last week’s No. 2, Easton, 5-1. The goal the Red Rovers scored is one of only two scored against Emmaus this season. Bangor has climbed two spots to No. 5 after earning three wins this week. Nazareth enters the rankings for the first time this season, surging to No. 6.
Warren Hills football edges North Hunterdon with a last-minute TD
The Warren Hills Regional High School football team narrowly defeated North Hunterdon 36-33 at home, in what was a back and forth game up until the last whistle. A touchdown pass from Garrett Koch to Zach Hamilton pushed the Blue Streaks ahead in the last minute of the Mid-State 38 Conference Raritan Division contest. Turning point: Facing fourth-and-11 from the North Hunterdon 21, Koch found Hamilton in the back corner of the end zone with 41 seconds on the fourth-quarter clock.
Another week, the same No. 1 in field hockey
Another week of the field hockey season is complete and the rankings haven’t budged too much. Emmaus still sits at No. 1, boasting a 10-0 record with no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The Green Hornets' goal differential is unmatched, having outscored their opponents 115-1 through 10 games (yes, 115). No. 2 Easton faces No.1 Emmaus on Sept. 28 at home and will certainly be the game to watch this week, as a win for Easton may be the best shot at dethroning Emmaus this season.
This Sex Toy Might Make Cis, Straight Men Less Shitty

These new toys look like everything from emojis to cupcakes to miniature Pixar robots.
