What was your first job as a journalist?
As a student reporter in the Boston Globe newsroom. I was completely terrified the entire time.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes, of course. But not for work.
How is social media changing news?
It's making news faster. TBD whether it's making news better
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
I don't have one... TV and movies never seem to get the details right.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Long hours, low pay, little appreciation and the greatest job in the world.
What's your favorite social network?
I love/hate Twitter.

Why did you become a journalist?
I wanted to write, and hopefully, to serve the greater good
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Be nice and be memorable. The connections you make early in your career will be critical later on.
When's the best time to pitch you?
approximately 8:45 a.m. Seriously. Any earlier and it gets lost in the deluge of overnight emails, any later and I'm too busy.
What's your favorite drink?
Coffee. I mean, does that have to be asked?
