1. Introduction Heavy metals (HMs) are natural non-biodegradable constituents of the Earth’s crust that accumulate in excess and persist indefinitely in the ecosystem due to prevalent anthropogenic activities []. Contamination of arable soils with HMs is an ever-growing worldwide problem and a great environmental menace.
