As The Gonzaga Bulletin senior editors prepare to leave GU behind, they share their final thoughts on their journey through The Bulletin and the importance of student media. Sofia Beltran-  Opinion editor Although there are many wonderful aspects of a student publication, I have been most inspired by the effort each community member puts into their individual role.

I’ve been the opinion editor of The Gonzaga Bulletin since I was 19 years old; I got the job the first semester of my sophomore year. I missed one semester to study abroad in Madrid, and even while there, I knew that I’d be back in the newsroom once I was back on campus. But the thing is, I’m not a journalist, and I never will be. I’m terrible at objective language and I can’t recount events without self-selected adjectives.

Oscar Restrepo is doing his best, and maybe that’s the most we can ask from those we love. Simón Mesa Soto’s movie, “A Poet,” celebrates the unfortunate and unsightly aspects of life while leaving room for forgiveness and beauty. The careful study of the endlessly varied experience of life gives this story a soul. Restrepo, the film’s protagonist, is a struggling poet and teacher who has lost his way as a father and living being.
