The distribution of glycophorin GYP(B‐A‐B) hybrids among blood donors in north‐eastern Thailand

This study presents the first molecular characterization of glycophorin GYP(B-A-B) hybrid alleles, which encode a set of low-frequency antigens, including Mia, among north-eastern Thai blood donors. The distribution of GYP(B-A-B) hybrids varies significantly across geographic regions in Thailand, with the GYP*Mur allele being the most common. Given its clinical implications, identifying the zygosity of this allele may be necessary for transfusion management in this population.
