Technically, these are supposed to be the dog days of the summer, but the sun is beating down mercilessly on Larmer Tree Gardens this Friday afternoon. As a result, End of the Road Festival feels almost like a surreal, shimmering mirage. Clad in black, we move like ants under a magnifying glass, seeking refuge beneath ancient oaks. While the conditions might defy the weather app’s mild predictions, it perfectly encapsulates the festival’s spirit: expect the unexpected.

Glastonbury 2024 is over. For anyone who was there, the comedown is here; for anyone who wasn’t, you can look at social media again. Photographer Sophie Barloc was with us on Worthy Farm this year, freely shooting the greatest festival in the world, creating this collection of photos that capture the unique magic and energy of Glastonbury.

When it all came crashing down, Ian Lynch remembers feeling that he had nothing left to lose in the first place. “When the financial crash happened,” says Ian, “it didn’t particularly affect me because I’d never had money in my life.” For the Lankum vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, the lean years were business as usual. “My main experience was great, you know,” he continues, “because nobody had any jobs. Everybody was out playing music all the time.” A rare pause.
