I've been a freelance photojournalist here in Orange County for 36 years. Previously, I've worked for UPI, AP, the Boston Globe, Orange County Metropolitan and the Orange County Business Journal. I was getting regular assignments from the LA Times until the virus crisis ended their freelance budget. Since then I've had too much time on my hands.

Laguna Community Concert Band Throws a Patriotic Birthday Party

Instead of bringing a cake and candles, the 50-plus volunteer members of the Laguna Community Concert Band gifted the USA with something more original – a musical 250th birthday celebration held August 1st at the Festival of Arts grounds. “We will play patriotic favorites in recognition of our 250th,” explained conductor Jennifer Baker. “We'll be playing America the Beautiful, Stars and Stripes Forever as well as a lot of American composers.

Sculptor Honors Truly Pizza

The logo of Truly Pizza at North PCH and Aster Street is a flame rising from a heart. The popular restaurant takes this Fire Heart and its trademarked Liv Lov (no “e's,” please!) credo so positively that they commissioned internationally famous sculptor Michael Kalish to replicate the logo in a 8 x 4 1/2-foot work of art accented by hundreds of Liv Loves in aluminium on a steel armiture painted red and bolted in place in the corner of Truly Pizza's sidewalk patio.
