Overall, I wasn’t very impressed with the Henry Rose collection when I first smelt it. The profiles tend to lack body and are far too thin and one-sided to be worth even their modest prices. Windows Down has grown on me. It’s different in style and construction from the rest of the line, and adds something new to the genre it’s situated in. Earl Grey is the central accord to Windows Down.

The Macassar Rochas fragrance, released in 1980, which has become a legend in narrow circles of its fans, and the history of its exotic name, has long occupied my thoughts. More often than not, I encountered a version that the fragrance was named after the black Macassar wood. However, I have never met such a natural raw material, and there are other versions as well. Macassar (or Makassar) is the name of an oil used by European men in the 18th and 19th centuries for styling their hair.

Jovoy has unveiled Musc Pallas during the Esxence niche perfume show in Milan, a musky fragrance with pearly and iridescent reflections, named after an important asteroid in our solar system. It is an elegant, modern, and faceted creation that perfumer Vanina Muracciole has woven for Jovoy. Around the musk theme of the perfume, she deployed powdery, fruity, and woody notes.
