Evaluation of oral herpes simplex virus shedding among solid organ transplant recipients: A pilot study
CONFLICT OF INTEREST STATEMENT The authors of this manuscript have conflicts of interest to disclose as described by Transplant Infectious Disease. Michael J. Boeckh is a consultant for Symbio Pharmaceuticals and Moderna and has no research funds conflicts of interest to disclose. Steven A. Pergam receives research support from Global Life Technologies, Inc., and participates in clinical trials with F2G, Symbio, and Cidara; none of these organizations was involved in this manuscript.
Performance characteristics of highly automated HSV-1 and HSV-2 IgG testing
ALG reports contract testing from Abbott, Cepheid, Novavax, Pfizer, Janssen and Hologic, research support from Gilead, outside of the described work. CJ reports consulting fees from Assembly Biosciences and GSK and research funding from GSK and Moderna. No industry support was received for the above work, which was entirely paid for by departmental funds.
Comparison of herpes simplex virus 1 genomic diversity between adult sexual transmission partners with genital infection
The consensus-level HSV-1 genome is unique to each transmission pair and is highly conserved between sexual partners The average percent identity between world-wide, randomly sampled HSV-1 genomes has been estimated at ~97% [10]. We calculated the percent identity of viral genomes detected in this study cohort by selecting the first genome sampled from each participant for comparison (Table 2).
Subclinical Genital Herpes Shedding in HIV/Herpes Simplex Virus 2-Coinfected Women during Antiretroviral Therapy Is Associated with an Increase in HIV Tissue Reservoirs and Potentially Promotes HIV Evolution

Subclinical genital herpes shedding in HIV/HSV-2 co-infected women during antiretroviral therapy (ART) is associated with an increase in HIV tissue reservoirs and potentially promotes HIV evolution.
Pathogenesis and Immunity Tajanna Stinn, Steve Kuntz, Dana Varon, Meei-Li Huang, Stacy Selke, Samuel Njikan, Emily S. Ford, Joan Dragavon, Robert W. Coombs, Christine Johnston, Marta E. Bull DOI: 10.1128/JVI.01606-20 ABSTRACT Antigen (Ag)-specific immune responses to chronic infections, such as herpes simplex virus type-2 (HSV), in HIV/HSV co-infected persons may sustain HIV tissue reservoirs by promoting T-cell proliferation but are poorly studied in women on antiretroviral therapy (ART).
Prospective cohort study showing persistent HSV-2 shedding in women with genital herpes 2 years after acquisition
Objectives Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is a prevalent infection with great variability in clinical and virological manifestations among individuals. This prospective cohort study aims to evaluate the natural history of HSV-2 reactivation in the genital area in the same group of women over time.
