1. Introduction The bone structure and periodontal ligament (PDL) are the supporting tissues of the tooth and are subjected to various amounts and forms of stresses during orthodontic treatment [1,2]. Two types of bone can be distinguished: the cortical and the trabecular/cancellous bone, which, biomechanically, should be analyzed as a continuum [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8]. The trabecular component holds the bone marrow and vascular vessels and has a higher regeneration potential than cortical bone [9].
