Earth Island Institute and Californians Against Waste are asking a federal judge for a seat at the table in the lawsuit that has already put California’s “Truth in Environmental Labeling” law on ice. The two groups, along with Earth Island’s Plastic Pollution Coalition project, filed a motion to intervene July 27 in the US District Court for the Southern District of California, seeking to defend SB 343 after Judge William Q.

Waste Connections sees Q2 lift on recycled commodity values

Strong pricing and a rebound in recycled commodity values boosted Waste Connections (TSX/NYSE: WCN) second-quarter 2026 expectations, prompting the company to raise its full-year outlook for revenue and adjusted EBITDA. The company reported Q2 revenue of $2.562 billion, up 6.4% year over year from $2.407 billion, and adjusted EBITDA of $840.1 million, up 6.8% from $786.4 million, with margin expanding to 32.8% of revenue from 32.7% a year earlier.

MTA loses track of recycling, costing NYC Transit $800,000

New York City Transit failed to consistently separate recyclables from trash at its bus depots and maintenance shops for years, according to a new report from the MTA Office of the Inspector General (OIG). The hauler, identified in Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) contract records as Action Carting Environmental Services, reportedly compounded the problem by dumping source-separated cardboard and paper back in with the garbage.
