Chronic lymphocytic leukemia happens due to gene mutations affecting bone marrow cells. Risk factors may include chemical exposure, age, and sex. Researchers are working to understand the causes and improve existing treatment options. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) starts in the bone marrow’s white blood cells. Symptoms of CLL, a cancer that begins in the bone marrow, can include fever, fatigue, weight loss, and night sweats. Most people with CLL don’t have symptoms early on. You may have CLL for years and not know it. Talk with your healthcare provider about blood test results. They may reveal changes that warrant further testing. It's typical for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) not to produce symptoms for several years, and symptoms that do occur are common to many other conditions.
