Stephan Lesher: President of the United Base
By Stephan Lesher Published 6:49 pm EST, Tuesday, February 5, 2019 Donald Trump may technically be president of the United States, but in his unstable temperament, his lack of dignity, his incessant lying, his dearth of knowledge, and his apparent unwillingness to work rather than watch Fox News, he is no more president of the United States than are the thugs he admires like Vladimir Putin, Rodrigo Duterte or Kim Jong Un — although, it appears that current investigations might possibly find...
Stephan Lesher: Border fatuity
By Stephan Lesher Published 6:00 am EST, Thursday, January 31, 2019 The notion that the United States has a border crisis is fatuous — that is, according to Merriam-Webster, “ inanely foolish.” The problem is not border security, but border fatuity, or, as Colonel Potter on “M*A*S*H,” might have said, “Buffalo Bagels” or “Beaver Biscuits.” We all knew what the euphemisms meant. Sadly, Trump isn’t the only one spewing baloney about a crisis at our Southern border.

Stephan Lesher: Blue wave response to least-liked president
Stephan Lesher: Blue wave response to least-liked president That Donald Trump is a vile man is hardly open to dispute. For years, like any egomaniac, he has he yearned to talk about himself incessantly. And like any egomaniac, he doesn’t really care what he says as long as it’s about him. Thus, he has himself told us about many, if not all, of the vile things he has done — and appears proud of.

Stephan Lesher: Hillary should consider supporting TPP
Most politicians hate changing their position on particular issues for fear of being labeled “a flip-flopper.” In that regard, Hillary Clinton, more than most, is unlikely to reconsider once again supporting the Transpacific Partnership trade deal. After initially supporting TPP, as the deal is known, she backed off — probably because she was forced to by Senator Bernie Sanders’ strong opposition on grounds that it’s largely responsible for the country’s economic insecurity and inequality.
George Wallace, the Origins of the New Conservatism, and the Transformation of American Politics: Dan T. Carter: 9780807125977: Amazon.com: Books
This is an excellent study on the political career of George Wallace, the former Alabama Governor famed for his stand against integration in the early 1960's and his subsequent runs for the Presidency. Carter portrays Wallace as a complex individual, who seems to have been motivated from the start more by ambition than principle. The book gives an extremely well researched and readable account of Wallace's early life, his family, friendships and formative experiences.
