Interview
How is social media changing news?
The ways in which news reaches readers have definitely changed thanks to social media. But the way in which companies communicate with the public has also changed. This in turn has an impact on research. Social media, but also digitalisation itself, has changed everything. Some things have become more complicated, others easier. There is light and there are dark sides to social media, just like in real life.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
I don't have one in particular. Basically, I respect all colleagues who are enthusiastic, courageous and committed to their work.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
That you follow your curiosity, scrutinise and critically question facts, but are also committed to the truth. Because even if a medium is ultimately a product that has to sell, you can't create stories or sensations where there are none.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
By email and with my needs in mind (writing articles for a B2B audience)
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
This is constantly changing, as you have to move with the times. Of course, software for writing, tools for translation and proofreading, all kinds of office software, image and video editing and so on.
What's your favorite social network?
Definitely LinkedIn, because it has a professional context.
Who do you wish followed you?
Ideally, of course, anyone who has at least a semi-professional interest in the games industry or works in it. And if they are also interested in the European games industry or the GSA countries in particular, all the better.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I like all stories that are about new, young companies, about the courageous step to try something new, whether as a company or a product, or about inspiring people from whom you can "take a leaf out of their book".
When's the best time to pitch you?
My email inbox is always open.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Classic B2B spam, i.e. pitches for paid, unbranded advertising copy, which is neither compatible with German press law nor with the professional ethos of a journalist.
What's your favorite drink?
My friends know it, but the internet doesn't need to know that.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Together with my family. Whether in the mountains, at the lake, shopping, in the beer garden or with the kids on the football pitch - a balance is important. And when I have time, I also like to play games on the console.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I read so many media for professional reasons, many of which are very good, that there is no favourite.
