Wisconsin weather: Severe storm potential Friday afternoon
Published August 21, 2026 1:28 PM CDT MILWAUKEE - An incoming cold front will bring another chance for thunderstorms across southeast Wisconsin late Friday afternoon into the evening. Despite the morning rain, a few storms could still become severe, especially if clouds break and allow for some sunshine. That would boost temperatures and dew points ahead of the front, providing more energy for storms. If clouds remain in place, however, storms would likely be weaker.
Wisconsin tornado count hits second-highest yearly total on record

For comparison, Wisconsin recorded 45 tornadoes in all of 2024. The state record is 62 tornadoes, set in 2005.

Moderate to severe drought By the numbers: About 50% of Wisconsin is abnormally dry, whilenearly 40% of the state remains in moderate to severe drought. Most of the severe drought is confined to parts of northern Wisconsin.
