When Tianna was 12 she was diagnosed with leukaemia and placed in an isolation pod for five months. Fortunately she became friends with fellow patient Raya, and the pair have now returned to the medical world — this time as students.

Reaching adulthood is usually a cause for celebration, but Flick Chafer-Smith hit rock bottom a day after her 18th birthday when she was sent to jail. Swept into a grim cycle of drug addiction and reoffending, she spent the next six years in and out of prison until she found her salvation through art. "It was do or die basically … I was either going to end up in prison for the rest of my life, dead, or I had to change," she said. "So art was a massive part of helping me do that.
