Firefighting pilot at Gold Mountain Fire crashes into Gunnison County reservoir

GUNNISON COUNTY, Colo. — A pilot fighting the Gold Mountain Fire has crashed into a Gunnison County reservoir, according to the local sheriff's office. At 5:17 p.m. on Sunday, the Gunnison Regional Communications Center received a report that an aircraft had gone down in the Silver Jack Reservoir in the southwest part of the county, the Gunnison County Sheriff's Office said. The aircraft was part of the firefighting effort with the Gold Mountain Fire, Gunnison County Sheriff Adam Murdie confirmed.

Six people have been detained after gunfire reported at Cherry Creek State Park beach; no known injuries

ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — Six people have been detained after law enforcement responded to a report of multiple shots fired at Cherry Creek State Park's swim beach on Sunday. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), as well as the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, responded to the scene. No injuries have been reported, CPW said. CPW said the call came in around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Part of the swim beach was closed during the investigation while authorities collected evidence.

Small plane crashes south of Grand Junction in remote area; both people aboard both walk away

MESA COUNTY, Colo. — Two people walked away from a small plane crash in a remote area south of Grand Junction on Friday afternoon. Around 4:40 p.m. Friday, deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a downed small aircraft in a remote area south and east of Highway 141, between Whitewater and Gateway, the sheriff's office said. This is roughly 20 miles south of Grand Junction. The map below shows Highway 141 between the two towns.
