Hot weekend coming but thunderstorm threat looms, Met Office says
Warm weather this weekend as the record heatwave continues could be spoiled by thunderstorms in some areas, the Met Office has said. Friday is likely to be the fifth day in a row when temperatures top 30C, according to the forecaster, but there is an increasing chance of some intense thundery downpours developing in central and western areas. Thursday was provisionally the hottest day of the year so far, with 32.6C recorded in Wisley, Surrey.
Heatwave set to break record for most consecutive September days over 30C
The high temperatures are expected to continue on Thursday and through the weekend, peaking as high as 33C on Saturday, which is likely to be the hottest day of the year. Stephen Dixon of the Met Office said temperatures above 30C in September are uncommon but not unheard of – the month’s highest daily temperature reading was 35.6C in 1906 – but the length of this heatwave is particularly unusual.
Dry weather to give way to thunder and hail
The dry weather will give way to “thundery and unstable” conditions on Thursday and Friday, with Northern Ireland expected to experience between 20 and 25mm of rainfall within an hour and even some hail, before spreading to parts of western Scotland, the North West and North Wales. Met Office spokesman Stephen Dixon said that, while temperatures will remain hotter than average for this time of year, most regions of the country will drop below the threshold for a heatwave.

I Bet You’re Really Fun at Parties
Hey buddy, great comment, real insightful. I’m sure you put a ton of effort into formulating a thoughtful, well-crafted response. The way you offered a level-headed analysis in a non-condescending tone. Your direct yet inoffensive language. I bet you’re really fun at parties. I see you cited a bunch of facts and provided links to your sources, all of which appear to be reputable peer-reviewed journals.
