Writing for my hometown newspaper.

What does it mean to be a journalist?
To as accurately as possible report news and share stories to help human beings better understand our world and make better decisions.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?
My Mac and a worn out copy of The Elements of Style.
What's your favorite social network?
LinkedIn because most people on it respect it as a place to focus on business and career topics. I also see very few posts about politics.
Who do you wish followed you?
People who are curious about the world of branding, creativity, the future, and careers.
Why did you become a journalist?
My main job is as a PR/branding expert. I also write for a number of online/print publications. I write to help others better understand.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No I didn't, but I was a feature writer for my college student newspaper, The Aquin, at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
An article on my blog about the future of work and careers which involved interviews with experts worldwide.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write as much as possible. You don't become better by just being another year older. It's a lifetime art and craft.
What's your favorite drink?
The first cup of coffee in the morning sitting next to my incredible wife thinking about the day ahead.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In the outdoors -- downhill skiing, cycling, golfing, fishing, or working on the yard.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I'm a news junkie. I am constantly watching, reading and listening news. My favorites: NPR, CNN, MSNBC, Wired, MIT Technology Review, etc.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That I'm interested in every nuance of marketing. What I'm really interested in is interesting people who think differently.
