A review I didn't plan on writing
By Stephen Nichols When I photograph most watches, I go into macro mode because I like it. Some watches demand macro and actually earn it. This Sero Watch Company was one of those. The kind that should ship with a loupe so you can properly admire the engraved Breguet numerals, the vertical brushing, the heat blued handset. I said as much in a caption a while back, told you all I might dust off the keyboard and do a full review. You said yes. So here we are.
Heritage Watch Brands We Wish Would Return
Title image courtesy of @matthew_taylor_vintage A couple of weeks ago, we explored the Resurgence and Revival of heritage watch brands-a story that clearly struck a chord with readers. The success of that article underscored how deeply enthusiasts care about the legacies of these storied marques and how much excitement surrounds the idea of seeing them return to life.
Why Bother with Apologetics?
The Apologist’s Task: Proof and Persuasion Apologetics does not just entail defense. It also involves offense, the positive task of constructing a case for Christianity that shows itself to be applicable to every culture, as well as being the only (and therefore the best) alternative to the world’s philosophical and theological systems of thought. In other words, apologetics can be used to show that Christianity is true and that all non-Christian worldviews are false.
Camp Watches FieldTimer 39mm
by Stephen Nichols LA Cool, Distilled Some watches whisper their inspirations. The Camp Watches FieldTimer 39mm shouts them from a canyon-side garage in Laurel Canyon. Designed by LA-based industrial designer Justin Jakobson, the FieldTimer doesn't just nod to the city's cultural history-it wears it boldly on its dial, its fonts, its curves. After spending time with the red dial version on loan from Camp, I came away convinced: this isn't just a field watch.
A Two-Month Test Drive of the Ultimate Field Watch
by Stephen Nichols Playing the field In the ever-evolving world of horology, few timepieces manage to strike a balance between rugged functionality and refined aesthetics. Enter the Canopy Field One-a watch that is working hard to redefine the field watch genre and to set a new standard for what enthusiasts can expect for well under a grand.
Jack Mason's all new Pursuit Pilot 10th Anniversary Edition
by Stephen Nichols The 10-Year Anniversary Edition You Didn't Know You Needed, But Probably Do Ah, Jack Mason. The little brand that could. Starting off as a fashion-brand with watches you might pick up at the mall and throw on for a night out, they've now matured into a rising star in the world of serious enthusiast centric timepieces. No joke, they are on a roll.
Reading the Parable of the Prodigal Son on the Shoulders of Giants
Voices from the Past, Wisdom for the Present The ESV Church History Study Bible is grounded upon the basic point that we have much to learn from those who have gone before us. Charles Spurgeon once encouraged his students to read commentaries, noting that the Holy Spirit is not an exclusive or individual gift to any one believer. Since we know that the Holy Spirit teaches us, we can know that the Holy Spirit teaches others.
Saint Nicholas and the Origins of Santa Claus
At his post Bishop Nicholas diligently served. Over the course of his entire life he was known for being extremely generous. He was especially generous to children, regularly giving them gifts. Myra was a busy port city with ships and sailors coming and going. The ships went out of Myra’s port loaded with gifts and goods for the needy, all provided and packed on by Bishop Nicholas. His gifts went all around the Mediterranean world.
God Used This Broken Pastor-and He Can Use You Too
God Uses Imperfect People To ask a historian to pick a favorite person from church history is really tough because there are so many of them. I really enjoy getting to know people and how God has used them, how they have worked specifically in God’s church over time. One of the things that I struggle with as a historian is trying to make sure that I’m not idolizing individuals.
Hawaii's Imperial Watch Co. Announces a Trio of New Variants in their Royalguard 200 Collection
Let’s dive into the new colors (pun always intended). First up is the Tropical, which captures the rusty brown and red tones reminiscent of a well-aged tropical bezel. Then we have the Ghosted Green, a soft, muted shade of green that changes from light green to a deep emerald depending on the light. And of course, there’s the Classic Black, which exudes a vintage, almost gray faded aesthetic. The original blue bezel variant follows this same trend, with its muted, faded, and aged appearance.
Hands On with the All New Nodus Unity
On my 6 ¾ to 7 inch wrist, the Unity fits comfortably and wears similarly to a Rolex Explorer 36 in terms of wrist presence and comfort. However, the use of color gives it a little more visual weight, making it wear perhaps a tad larger than the numbers would suggest. The bracelet articulates well, is well-finished, and is of great quality for this price point, with no sharp edges or snags in its execution. To be honest, I struggle to find much to critique on this watch.
Getting Modular with the Liberum DMD 001
The watch features a modular design consisting of five different colored outer cases, one or two inner cases (depending on the package you select), and five integrated polyurethane rubber straps. These pieces seamlessly integrate with each other, allowing you to swap and combine them for 25 different color combinations. While some color combinations may work better than others, the Liberum watch lets you switch and swap until your heart’s content.
Podcast Throwback: Why did R.C. Sproul think Classical Theism was his legacy?
From his books to the chalkboard, R.C. Sproul communicated the deep things of God in an accessible way. When asked what the core of his legacy was all about he exclaimed, “Classical Theism!” But Sproul’s commitment to classical theism was foundational to his defense of the faith as well, which explains why Sproul was so committed to classical apologetics. Why did Sproul move away from Van Til’s presuppositional apologetics to classical apologetics instead?
The Incarnation - Credo Magazine
It was Gregory of Nazianzus who stated, “That which He has not assumed He has not healed.” As such, the Incarnation is not merely a historical occurrence. Rather, it is an event with deep soteriological implications. Furthermore, since God has become man, the doctrine has deep anthropological implications. Further still, since we expect Christ to return as the incarnate Lord, the doctrine has eschatological implications.
R. C. Sproul
Introducing the first biography of the life and ministry of R. C. Sproul R. C. Sproul (1939-2017) was a pastor, a professor, an author, and the founder and president of Ligonier Ministries. His contributions in the areas of biblical studies, theology, worldview and culture, Christian living, and church history continue to be held in high regard. In this audiobook read by Tom Parks, Stephen J.
What Is Simplicity and Does it Matter?
What does it mean for God to be unity as opposed to a God who is compounded of parts? Are God’s attributes and essence identical? How are immutability and eternity compromised if we reject simplicity? In this episode, Dr. Matthew Barrett is joined by Dr. James Dolezal to discuss divine simplicity, the attributes of God, the importance of classical theism, and why simplicity makes all the difference for a biblical understanding of the doctrine of God.
Should We Interpret the Bible Theologically?
Is it possible to approach the text of Scripture neutral, without a theological framework? What dangers exist in neglecting theology in the exegetical process? Should creeds and confessions throughout the history of Christianity play any role in biblical interpretation? What are appropriate ways to utilize dogmatic categories in exegesis? Why are the disciplines of theology and exegesis segregated today?
Thomas Aquinas: Friend or Foe?
Why are evangelicals so unfamiliar with one of the greatest theologians in the history of the church, Thomas Aquinas? Is Aquinas a friend or a foe to evangelicals today? Was Aquinas first and foremost a philosopher or a theologian? Is the popular assumption that Aquinas was a rationalist really true? What advantages are there to embracing a Reformed Thomism?
