TO THE EDITOR: Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) is an uncommon type of B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, with bone marrow infiltration by lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (LPL) cells accompanied by an immunoglobulin M paraprotein [1, 2]. In ~1% of patients with WM, LPL cells invade the central nervous system (CNS) [3]. This condition, called Bing Neel syndrome (BNS), has a highly diverse clinical and radiological presentation, depending on its localization within the nervous system [4,5,6].

In their paper the authors report their experience applying the EuroClonality NGS DNA Capture (EuroClonality-NDC) assay to plasma from diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients receiving first-line chemoimmunotherapy.1 This study further adds to the evidence for the use of liquid biopsy in lymphoma management, as previously demonstrated with other NGS-based platforms.2-4 Of note, this is the first publication utilising cell-free tumour DNA (ctDNA) as input to the EuroClonality-NDC assay,...

Thus, it is likely that further improvement in outcome for our patients with CLL will not come from improvements in CLL-directed therapy, rather from addressing competing causes of death.
