ERLC Presidential Search Update
On today’s episode of The ERLC Podcast, we talk with the chairman of the ERLC Presidential Search Committee, Mitch Kimbrell. He shares where the search committee process currently stands and how prayer has shaped and sustained the committee’s work. He also shares the search committee’s hope that the next leader will continue to advance the ERLC’s mission by equipping Southern Baptist churches, pastors, and ministry leaders with resources that are both biblically faithful and culturally relevant.

Pictures of Peace: A Reflection on the New Year’s Day Tragedy in New Orleans
Our family carries deep affection for New Orleans. My wife, Michele, and I moved there as students at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary when we were 25 years old, and we were captured by the city’s hospitality and warmth. In our time there, we made lifelong friends and welcomed our only son into the world. Over the years, we’ve returned often, each visit reaffirming just how unique New Orleans is, with its vibrant spirit and incredible people.
After Easter, now what?
The pastor proclaims, “He is risen!” The congregation responds, “He is risen indeed!” We retell the wonderful biblical story of Christ’s cross and empty tomb. With heart and hands and voices, we give thanks and celebrate the gift of eternal life Jesus gives to everyone who believes. Easter Sunday is the highest point of the church’s year, as God’s people proclaim our Lord’s resurrection. But after Easter, the question always arises: Now what?
Falwell resigns as president of Liberty
LYNCHBURG, Va. (BP) – After drama, denial and dispute, it’s official: Jerry Falwell Jr. has resigned as president of Liberty University. The school announced his departure Tuesday (Aug. 25), saying Liberty’s board of trustees had accepted his resignation. The move came amid escalating controversy over Falwell’s conduct, as well as allegations that he condoned an affair between his wife and a man he described as a family friend.
FIRST-PERSON: How to be a shepherd sheep can trust
OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) – A writer spent time with a shepherd on the Texas plains. One night, the shepherd built a fire, and the sheep gathered close. Around midnight, a coyote howled in the distance, followed by another coyote from the opposite direction. The fearful sheep began bleating. The shepherd tossed logs onto the fire. As flames shot up, the writer looked out and saw 4,000 tiny lights—the fire reflected in the eyes of 2,000 sheep.

Falling Seed: How to preach to an empty room
Stephen Rummage Share this article I have been pastoring and preaching for 28 years, and I’ve spent more than 20 years as a preaching professor. Until very recently, I’ve never really given any thought about how to preach to an empty room. My goal has always been that the church would be as full as we can get it when it comes time to preach.

Becoming a person of prayer
Posted on February 25, 2020 By Stephen Rummage Years ago, God put questions on my heart that changed my prayer life. First, I asked myself, “What would happen if I prayed more and did other things less?” What if I prayed more and slept less, checked the news less or watched television less?

Giving the invitation: 5 words of encouragement for preachers
Home » Feature » Giving the invitation: 5 ... Posted on December 18, 2019 By Stephen Rummage Not long ago, I was part of a preaching seminar with about 15 other pastors. We were asked, “How many of you give an invitation each time you preach?” I was surprised to see that only a little more than half of us raised our hands. But I was encouraged that those who raised their hands were not all the same. Some of us were older, some younger. Some were more reformed in their soteriology, some less so.
