Stephen Monro’s Biography

Stephen Monro is an attorney in Washington State with long-standing experience in law, construction, and real estate. Throughout his career, he has founded law firms, including the Monro Law Firm and the Platinum Law Group. He is admitted to every court in Washington State as well as the Western and Eastern District Federal Courts. Beyond his legal practice, he is licensed as a general contractor, a real estate broker, and an IRS tax preparer. For more than 25 years, he has also provided pro bono legal services, giving representation to those who would not otherwise have access to it. His professional work spans complex legal areas including civil litigation, personal injury, and property law.

Early Life and Educational Background

He was born in 1952 in Seattle, Washington. After finishing secondary school, he enrolled at Central Washington University. There, he completed his undergraduate studies, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree that gave him a foundation in the liberal arts. He later pursued legal education at City University in Los Angeles, earning his Juris Doctor degree. Continuing his academic journey, he later obtained a Master of Business Administration degree from City University, furthering his education in both law and business.

Marine Corps Discipline and Civilian Transition

Before his legal career began, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. His time in the military developed discipline, decision-making skills, and the ability to remain steady under pressure. These traits carried into his civilian life and influenced his work in law and firm management. Leading under stress, completing tasks without compromise, and carrying forward respect for order became hallmarks of his later professional practice.

Admission to Legal Practice

His legal practice formally began in 1996. From that time forward, he has represented clients throughout Washington State, appearing in both state and federal courts. His admission covers all Washington State courts, in addition to the Western and Eastern District Federal Courts.

He is an active participant in professional associations, including the Washington State Bar Association, the Washington State Association for Justice, and the American Association for Justice. These memberships provide him with access to resources, peer discussions, continuing education, and standards that guide his litigation practices.

Over the years, he established his own firms, which have included the Law Office of Stephen K. Monro, the Monro Law Firm, and Platinum Law Group. Each of these practices reflects his ongoing dedication to client representation and professional service.

Experience in Real Estate and Construction Fields

His professional background extends beyond law. He worked as a general contractor in Washington State, giving him direct insight into building sites, contracts, and real property matters. This firsthand experience allows him to approach legal cases in construction with a practical understanding that many attorneys may lack. He is familiar with budgeting, scheduling, and regulatory processes that define construction projects.

He is also a licensed real estate broker in the state of Washington. This license enables him to work with sales contracts, disclosures, listing requirements, and agency relationships. The combination of legal knowledge and real estate licensing enables him to analyze both sides of property disputes and transactions.

The intersection of construction and real estate experience often informs his legal practice. Whether the matter involves commercial disagreements, residential sales disputes, or property line conflicts, he draws on a complete perspective of the documents, conditions, and regulations at issue.

Mediation Services

Alongside litigation, he also provides mediation services. His goal is to help resolve disputes before they extend into lengthy legal battles. By offering mediation at fair and reasonable costs, he provides an alternative that concludes most cases without trial. These services allow parties to find closure in a more efficient and balanced way.

Tax Advocacy Credentials

The IRS credentials him to assist clients with tax return preparation. This credential enables him to support clients in addressing financial, tax-related, and legal matters.

Pro Bono Service

For over 25 years, he has dedicated time to pro bono work. Through this effort, he has represented clients who would not have access to legal help otherwise. Many of these individuals face risks, including housing loss, unfair treatment, or personal hardship. He treats these matters with the same attention and commitment as he does for paying clients.

Pro bono work often requires explaining procedures step by step, ensuring that clients understand deadlines and filing requirements. Many people without access to legal resources are unfamiliar with these processes, and he takes on the responsibility of guiding them thoughtfully. This service has been a consistent part of his career, balancing professional obligations with community responsibility.

Personal Interests and Outdoor Stewardship

Outside of his legal practice, he has maintained close ties with land, family, and animals. Fishing in the rivers and lakes of the Pacific Northwest remains one of his favorite pastimes. Camping is also a regular part of his life, often enjoyed with family while traveling by RV to different locations across Washington and nearby states.

He also cares for horses, including those he has rescued. Caring for these animals requires daily attention, patience, and consistency, which he provides throughout the year.

In addition to his work with animals, he is committed to protecting natural spaces. Preserving wildlife habitat and maintaining the environment are values he carries into both personal and family life. These values shape how he uses his land and encourage his family to respect the natural environment.

Family ties strengthen his personal life. He and his wife are approaching their 50th wedding anniversary, a relationship that reflects loyalty and stability. That foundation supports both his personal life and his professional responsibilities.

Stephen Monro continues to balance professional service, community responsibility, and personal commitments. His career reflects years of legal practice, combined with experience in construction, real estate, and tax advocacy. Through pro bono service, he ensures access to justice for those in need, while his personal commitments highlight his connection to family, land, and community.
