Steve Dye: I was no Jerry West (Opinion)
Last week, Jerry West, West Virginia native son and basketball star and general manager par excellence, died at age 86. Everyone I spoke to or texted remembered Jerry as the skinny, gangly, youthful star of Kanawha County’s old East Bank High School, an All-American at West Virginia University, and then a perennial NBA All-Star Team member with the phenomenal Lakers — along with legendary superstars Elgin Baylor, Wilt “the Stilt” Chamberlain and Pat Riley.
Steve Dye: WVU should bring back Huggins (Opinion)
Six months ago, I wrote an op-ed for the Gazette-Mail about the controversy swirling around the state after longtime West Virginia University men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins was arrested on drunk-driving charges in Pittsburgh and his subsequent resignation.
Steve Dye: WVU fans have moved on, Huggins should, too (Opinion)
Like all college basketball fans across West Virginia, I’ve followed Bob Huggins’ career closely. We fans know his résumé — we cheered when he chalked up his 935th career victory last year and was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. My dad and I rarely missed a Mountaineers radio broadcast.

Those briefs highlighted each association’s focus of year, the regulations and legislation they had at the top of their minds, and what that could mean for the future of the industry.

Over the past 30 years, policing has made the challenging move from an occupation to a profession. The advancements in the uses of technology, heightened requirements in hiring processes, higher levels of training and development, increased community and government collaboration, and the overall grasp of the community policing philosophy have all been key factors in this professional maturation.
Mission: Control – The Design of an Efficient and Safe Public Safety Facility - Police Chief Magazine
Law enforcement, which is usually quick to employ new technologies in the field, has been slower to adopt the state of the art in their built environments. However, that’s changing, as both departments and architects specializing in public safety are taking a microscope to department facilities and seeking ways to make them function more efficiently and safely.
