Waste or recovered paper businesses across the UK have told letsrecycle.com of their current concerns around the exporting of material. Exports have been hit by a range of problems caused by the shipping lines decision to reroute a lot of ships via the Cape of Good Hope so avoiding the Red Sea. This has prompted higher shipping costs, cancellations of orders, delays to movement of containers and ships as well as generating a huge air of uncertainty about what could happen in coming months.

In an analysis of EPR and DRS published alongside yesterday’s Autumn Statement from Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, the assumptions and methodologies behind the two polices are detailed. EPR and DRS, says HM Treasury, are among policy decisions announced since Spring Budget 2023, and have a “fiscally significant impact on the public finances”.

Zero Waste Europe (ZWE) is the European network of communities, organisations, local leaders, experts, and change agents working towards the elimination of waste in our society and receives some EU funding. In a statement, the organisation said its report criticises pyrolysis which has been called a ‘miraculous method of plastic waste management shown to be misleading in its efficacy’.
