Food waste in retail makes up just 2% of the total – but retailers have a key part to play in helping consumers cut it out too and progress has slowed. Why? Much attention has been given in recent weeks to food waste in stores, thanks to an anonymous social media activist raiding the bins of major supermarkets.

Lidl is appointing a ‘Green Team’ of ‘internal change-makers’ to drive forward its sustainability strategy toward reaching net zero by 2050. The discounter is looking among its current employees to form the team and bring fresh ideas to its sustainability agenda. “At Lidl GB, we know that reaching net zero by 2050 isn’t a solo mission – it requires a grassroots movement,” the supermarket wrote on LinkedIn on Thursday.
