After ascending to the starting quarterback role for Science Hill last season, coach Stacy Carter quizzed Spencer Taylor about his preferred jersey number for his season campaign. “Coach Carter asked me if I wanted to keep No. 16 and I told him, ‘No, I want that jersey’” That jersey is the hallowed No. 11, formerly worn by Science Hill legend, Heisman Trophy winner and former Duke, Florida and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier. “Wearing this jersey means everything,” added Taylor.

After suffering a scaphoid fracture midway through last season, West Ridge senior quarterback Trey Frazier will finally be back on the football field when the Wolves host Volunteer to open the season on August 23. “I didn’t play half the season last year, so I’m very hungry,” said Frazier. “I’ve been waiting a very long time for this season.” Every day however yielded one more yard. “I was nervous about whether I could get all the way back,” admitted Frazier.

Dobyns-Bennett’s offense won’t be turbo-charged this season, but it will certainly come with a faster tempo. “We are going to try and play a little faster,” said coach Joey Christian. “We want to get on the ball faster, get the ball moving and not give the defense time to adjust. “The tempo for us is not UT tempo. It will be something slower than that because we are going to have so many guys playing both ways that we can’t just go lightning pace every 12 seconds.
