Crystal structure of Isthmin-1 and reassessment of its functional role in pre-adipocyte signaling - Nature Communications
Abstract Isthmin-1 (ISM1) is a recently described adipokine with insulin-like properties that can control hyperglycemia and liver steatosis. Additionally, ISM1 is proposed to play critical roles in patterning, angiogenesis, vascular permeability, and apoptosis. A key feature of ISM1 is its AMOP (adhesion-associated domain in MUC4 (Mucin-4) and other proteins) domain which is essential for many of its functions.
Structural basis for the interaction between the Drosophila RTK Sevenless (dROS1) and the GPCR BOSS - Nature Communications
Abstract Sevenless, the Drosophila homologue of ROS1 (University of Rochester Sarcoma) (herein, dROS1) is a receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) essential for the differentiation of Drosophila R7 photoreceptor cells. Activation of dROS1 is mediated by binding to the extracellular region (ECR) of the GPCR (G protein coupled receptor) BOSS (Bride Of Sevenless) on adjacent cells. Activation of dROS1 by BOSS leads to subsequent downstream signaling pathways including SOS (Son of Sevenless).

Biochemical and structural basis for differential inhibitor sensitivity of EGFR with distinct exon 19 mutations - Nature Communications
Abstract Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are used to treat non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC) driven by epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in the tyrosine kinase domain (TKD). TKI responses vary across tumors driven by the heterogeneous group of exon 19 deletions and mutations, but the molecular basis for these differences is not understood. Using purified TKDs, we compared kinetic properties of several exon 19 variants.
De novo protein design of photochemical reaction centers - Nature Communications
Abstract Natural photosynthetic protein complexes capture sunlight to power the energetic catalysis that supports life on Earth. Yet these natural protein structures carry an evolutionary legacy of complexity and fragility that encumbers protein reengineering efforts and obfuscates the underlying design rules for light-driven charge separation.
