Why did you become a journalist?

I love the work.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I was asked to write funny for my high school newspaper. It was a hit. They sent me on serious photo assignments. That always worked.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Hurricane Katrina. We won a Pulitzer.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Ask questions. Ask questions from older journalists.

When's the best time to pitch you?

I’ve worked a great deal at night, so afternoon and later are better times, Breaking news breaks the rules.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Y2K New Years Eve 1999.
