Abstract Evaluation of ground failure potential in geotechnical practice is typically based on demand parameters that solely consider vertically propagating shear waves in the free-field. Soil–structure interaction (SSI) modifies demands beneath foundations, and observations from recent earthquakes, physical modeling studies, and numerical modeling simulations indicate that SSI contributes significantly to ground failure.

Development of a Generalized Cross-Building Structural Response Reconstruction Model Using Strong Motion Data
Technical Papers Abstract Models for reconstructing seismic response demands across multiple buildings can aid in cluster-level rapid postearthquake damage assessment. Response demands from 188 buildings affected by 25 earthquakes were used to develop a cross-building response reconstruction model. A structural response prediction model (SRPM) was developed, which is based on a modern ground motion model with added “building response” terms.

Stress History-Dependent Secondary Compression of San Francisco Bay Region Old Bay Clays
Downloaded 0 times Technical Papers Abstract Old Bay Clays are silty clays of Pleistocene age encountered along the margins of San Francisco Bay, beneath various sand formations, Holocene Bay Muds, and surficial fills. These materials are overconsolidated in their natural state. A recent project, Millennium Tower, produced intervals of loading in the Old Bay Clays that induced primary consolidation followed by secondary compression.

Abstract Shielding during the coronavirus pandemic has highlighted the potential of routinely collected primary care records to identify patients with ‘high-risk’ conditions, including severe asthma. We aimed to determine how previous studies have used primary care records to identify and investigate severe asthma and whether linkage to other data sources is required to fully investigate this ‘high-risk’ disease variant. A scoping review was conducted based on the Arksey and O’Malley framework.

Abstract One-dimensional ground response analyses (GRAs) are often used with an expectation that they provide unbiased estimates of site effects. Under that hypothesis, epistemic uncertainty in site response arises mainly from uncertain soil properties. This approach has dominated practice for projects where site-specific site response is estimated for use in probabilistic seismic hazard analyses.

Downloaded 0 times Technical Papers Abstract This paper presents one-dimensional ground response simulations of centrifuge models involving soft clay deposits subjected to ground motions of varying intensity. Total stress ground response simulations were performed using equivalent-linear (EL) and nonlinear (NL) methods. Shear strains higher than 10% were mobilized during large ground motions; therefore, undrained shear strength of the clay is an important parameter for the simulations.
