Metz - Up On Gravity Hill
The kings of dissonance and pummeling energy Metz are back with Up On Gravity Hill, a cathartic and melodic record hosting some of the band’s most groundbreaking songs to date. Up On Gravity Hill is the band’s first album in four years and it is very apparent the band has really worked on their sound and evolved it into this beautiful yet noisy batch of songs.
New Music | Friday Roll Out: J Mascis, J. Robbins, Lost Cargo
Ha, I had to laugh at this one because I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this label is on some next-level shit. Chicago’s Culture Power 45 just released Lost Cargo 7, its compilation series featuring local artists. This time around the label features Davis Jackson’s “Disappear,” ML7102 WITH “Hidden Substance,” 9th Scientist’s “Arcana Illative,” and untitled blank with “N1.” Here’s the thing though, this is a cassette-only release but to top it off, it’s limited to 10 copies.
Good Living Is Coming For You by Sweeping Promises
Nomadic post-punk duo Sweeping Promises have returned with their sophomore record, Good Living Is Coming For You, recorded in Kansas by the Texas by-way-of Boston band. According to the group’s Bandcamp, the record began as demos recorded in family bathrooms in Austin and, upon being dissatisfied with the results, found their way to an art studio in Lawrence, Kansas, where the ten songs that make up GLICFY would take shape. And take shape they did.
Live Review: Deeper at Reverb Lounge... - Lazy-i
Live Review: Deeper at Reverb Lounge… by TIm McMahan, Lazy-i.com Way back in 2016, I went to a show at the now long-defunct Milk Run featuring a Sub Pop band called Arbor Labor Union. Milk Run was a venue located around 20-something and Leavenworth that was the size of a large walk-in closet. Despite its size, they put on a number of interesting shows in their tiny lifetime.
Beach House - Become
Become EP is much more dense and cold than Once Twice Melody, however, it is still friendly and tactile, although it must be treated with a little caution. Every time you get ready to turn on a Beach House album – you know exactly what it's going to be and you get it, always. Their almost 20-year career is a unique way of descending to the ground from nowhere and giving people real ecstasy from the most pleasant music.
Lael Neale – Star Eaters Delight - Northern Transmissions
Omnichord prices are going through the roof these days. Time was you could find one of Suzuki’s faux-string-coursing electronic instruments on the cheap, whether online or at a particularly great yard sale. Earlier this year, though, when Blur’s Damon Albarn revealed in an interview that the earworm, two-note boom bap of his first Gorillaz smash, “Clint Eastwood,” was literally made using the Omnichord’s “Rock 1” pre-set beat, these things started jumping up to four-digit prices on Reverb.com.

King Tuff - Smalltown Stardust
Sometimes it takes four or five albums before an artist figures out who they really want to be. Maybe they fall into a genre due to favourable reviews, or a label convincing them to continue with their “distinctive” sound, but after years and years of it, it becomes a facade, leaving the artist to go into remission and sometimes fade into obscurity.
Weyes Blood - And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow
Natalie Mering watches the world crumble from a pier on her latest album as Weyes Blood, And in the Darkness, Heats Aglow. Her fifth album comes as the second instalment of a trilogy that includes its predecessor, 2019’s Titanic Rising. Whereas Titanic Rising anticipated the onset of doom, And in the Darkness, Hearts Aglow finds her swimming in its deep dark waters.
Going All In | An Interview with Kevin Whelan of Aeon Station
Aeon Station’s Observatory is the result of a hard-fought-and-won, years-in-the-making effort. While AS’s Kevin Whelan may wish it had come sooner, I suspect he’ll ultimately appreciate that the timeless melodies and powerful songwriting he’s delivered here are the result of age, experience, and ultimately, hardship. It’s a record that soulfully sings because his passion has persevered and his astute, relatable songcraft continues to land in hearts like an atom bomb.

New Pre-order from Loma
On December 26th, 2018, Emily Cross received an excited email from a friend: Brian Eno was talking about her band on BBC radio. “At first I didn’t think it was real,” she admits. But then she heard a recording: Eno was praising “Black Willow” from Loma‘s self-titled debut, a song whose minimal groove and hypnotic refrain seem as much farewell as a manifesto: I make my bed beside the road / I carry a diamond blade / I will not serve you. He said he’d had it on repeat.
Avi Buffalo's Music Removed From Streaming & Retail By Sub Pop
Avi Zahner-Isenberg, the musical artist known as Avi Buffalo, put out two albums via Sub Pop before ending the project in 2015. Now, after Zahner-Isenberg’s former bandmate Rebecca Coleman posted a detailed rape allegation on Instagram Tuesday night, the label has announced that it will pull Avi Buffalo’s music from its streaming services and retail stores.
Megan Ternes: Best of 2016
The List Best GIF and moment to be a Mariners fan: Cotton Candy Girl. I mean The Kid number ceremony was cool, but c’mon, can’t beat a young M’s fan cracked out on sugar. Best Live Shows: Beyonce and The Roots with Sheila E. in the same week. So yeah...not gonna top that for a while. Best ‘Damn Fam’ Moment: my twin sister got into nursing school.
Low: Double Negative
By Andrew Boe on March 14, 2019 in Low, Record Review, Sub Pop Low is performing live at Neumos on Wednesday, 20th March. Concert details and ticket information is available here. For a band who has been around since 1994 and released a dozen studio albums, Low has been incredibly consistent.
Rick and Morty Soundtrack Announced By Adult Swim and Sub Pop
Although it’s been nearly three years since “Mortynight Run” debuted, you’ve probably only recently stopped humming “Goodbye Moonmen.” Well, get ready to start humming again, because the Rick and Morty soundtrack is on its way, bringing with it the dulcet tones of Jemaine Clement as, um … Fart. Adult Swim and Sub Pop have teamed up to release a 26-track double album featuring music by Rick and Morty composer Ryan Elder, and songs from Chaos Chaos, Blonde Redhead and Mazzy Star.
Phil Waldorf: Best of 2016 | Sub Pop Records
2) Potato, Egg & Cheese, Tacos Guerro — Basically any breakfast taco here is amazing, but simplicity is sometimes best. The woman who runs it is always smiling. The dense corn tortillas are their own food group. 3) Steak Taco, Pueblo Viejo — Crippling, way too much meat, and so spicy that I’m always sweating after. 4) Migas Taco, Tamale House East — The migas at Tamale House East are a different food group from any other migas, anywhere.
Arwen Nicks: Best of 2016 | Sub Pop Records
This year Sub Pop started a podcast and I am one of the people that works on that podcast. Hello. So, I figured it would be great to make a list of 10 other podcasts that came out this year that I highly recommend. Okay, so I am already 100% cheating because this podcast came out in November of 2015 but idgaf.
