This study examined microbialites from the peritidal zone of three tide pools at Fongchueisha, Hengchun, Taiwan, to investigate the impact of salinity on microbial community composition and carbonate precipitation mechanisms.

Introduction Several cephalopods have two specialized-organs, known as light organ and accessory nidamental gland (ANG), which house symbionts. The light organ is a bacteriogenic photophore, which is found in both sexes of certain Sepiolidae and Myopsida species (Lindgren et al., 2012).
