ABSTRACT Inspection of social work services aims to improve accountability and the quality of services, but inspection can also have unwanted consequences. This paper presents findings from a rapid review of the literature on the effects of regulatory inspection on child and family services. We searched two electronic databases, websites of national inspectorates in Ireland, Great Britain and Northern Ireland and used reference chaining of extracted publications.
