What was your first job as a journalist?
I was a writer on a newsletter in London which I turned into a consumer magazine, renamed Survival Kit, and doubled the circulation.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To weave stories that delight and enlighten.
Why did you become a journalist?
I'm naturally curious and journalism seemed the only way I could go around asking nosy questions without getting into trouble.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Washington Women: 4 stories + original poll research about the lives of professional women, which won The Clarion Award
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write thank you notes. Be kind, especially to those below you. Remember, no one is below you.
