THE LOWDOWN: I’m a lifelong journalist, an award-winning writer, author and co-author of two books and a storyteller with extensive editorial, TV, web-launching and marketing/communications experience.

PUBLICATIONS: My work has appeared in…

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a writer on a newsletter in London which I turned into a consumer magazine, renamed Survival Kit, and doubled the circulation.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To weave stories that delight and enlighten.

Why did you become a journalist?

I'm naturally curious and journalism seemed the only way I could go around asking nosy questions without getting into trouble.

Awards

Clarion Award

1980 - Magazine Series; Division: Human Rights

I received the Clarion Award for a series of four articles along with the results of a detailed poll of over 300 professional women in Washington that were presented as a magazine within a magazine. I researched and wrote all the articles and supervised the creation and computer analysis of the poll. The Clarion Awards, presented annually by The Association for Women in Communications, is a renowned competition open to all communicators. The awards annually recognize excellence in communications fields. Highly sought after by both women and men, the Clarions—named for the medieval trumpet known for its clarity—symbolize excellence in clear, concise communications. Clarion recipients represent media companies large and small, leading corporations, small businesses, and nonprofit associations and institutions.
