1 Introduction Colchicine is a natural tricyclic alkaloid originally extracted from plants such as Colchicum autumnale. Since its first isolation and naming by French chemists Pierre Joseph Pelletier and Joseph Bienaimé Caventou in 1820 [1], it has been used in medicine for over a century. Modern clinical applications primarily include the treatment of acute gout, familial Mediterranean fever, and certain inflammatory diseases [2].
