The graffiti on a wall where I lived in the 1990s said: "Beer, tits, chips and gravy, that's what drives us lads crazy." Unfortunately, this comes to mind every time Andy Burnham does another matey social media video about pies or pasties. Sure, they make for lively talking points – his favourite Greggs snack is a sausage, beans and cheese melt (just no!) – but I do accept there are perhaps bigger issues. Having flooded the zone with relatable "vibes", Burnham now has to scale up.

How little it takes these days to be an iconoclast. I am not wild about Boy George, nor I am a fan of the song he has recorded, We Will Dance Again, in defence of military action in Israel. He, not his party, is the story, which is a sign of something going very wrong.

The blue coat Burnham wore during the pandemic, when he accused the Government of "playing poker with people's lives", is now in the museum too.

A senior Labour source has pointed out that "Andy, surrounded by female advisers and backers", had a passion for "female-orientated issues, and much less so with the bombs and budgets". Not only this, but he would be Labour's first female prime minister in "all but sex". The heat is driving all Westminster stooges even more bats--t than usual. In "all but sex" is key here.
