Last season, all six teams hosted Black History Month, Women’s Empowerment, and Pride Celebration games, and the three Canadian teams hosted Indigenous Heritage Celebration games.

The Wednesday evening Capitals-Rangers game started the usual way, with freshly resurfaced ice, warmups, the national anthem, and all of the other pre-game traditions. But when the teams lined up for the opening faceoff, it wasn’t time for hockey to start just yet, because all six forwards on the ice broke off into three separate fights the moment that the puck dropped. That’s right: the game started with an old-fashioned line brawl.

02/26/2021 update: The Atlanta Dream has been sold to a new ownership group consisting of Larry Gottesdiener, Suzanne Abair, and two-time WNBA champion and former Dream player Renee Montgomery. Kelly Loeffler is no longer a U.S. Senator OR a WNBA part-owner. Back in July, Raphael Warnock was polling fourth in a crowded pool of candidates vying for the Georgia Senate seat held by incumbent Kelly Loeffler. Six months later, he’s the state’s first ever Black senator.
