Current state of pharmacogenetics The term pharmacogenetics (PGx) first appeared in scientific literature in 1959 [1] and describes the field of genetics that investigates the effect of genetic variability on individual drug response [2]. PGx includes germline variants which influence the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of pharmaceuticals as well as somatic tumor-driver variants that influence the response to cancer drug therapies [3].
