Genomic and transcriptomic analyses of melanoma in Japanese patients reveal candidate biomarkers for immune checkpoint inhibitor responders - Communications Medicine
Abstract Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have greatly improved advanced melanoma prognosis. However, the efficacy of ICIs in Japanese patients has been found to be lower than that in their white counterparts. We aimed to elucidate the genomic and transcriptomic features associated with response to ICIs in Japanese patients with melanoma. A total of 129 tumor samples were collected from 78 patients with melanoma who received therapeutic regimens with or without ICI treatment.

Tetramodal bladder-preservation therapy incorporating induction chemoradiotherapy and consolidative partial cystectomy with pelvic lymphnode dissection for muscle-invasive bladder cancer: Long-term oncologic outcomes of 201 patients

Targeting non-coding RNAs: Perspectives and challenges of in-silico approaches
Ribonucleic acid (RA) is a biological polymeric molecule that participates in the coding, decoding, control, and expression of genes during various cellular processes. At first, in a very simplistic view, RNA was thought only as the carrier of information from DNA to proteins [1]. However, modern discoveries about the structure and activity of RNA molecules have greatly expanded their pool of functions.
Domain switching and exchange bias control by electric field in the multiferroic conical magnet $\mathrm{M}{\mathrm{n}}_{2}\mathrm{Ge}{\mathrm{O}}_{4}$
Abstract The electric-field effect on magnetism was examined in the multiferroic conical magnet Mn2GeO4, which shows a strong coupling between ferromagnetic and ferroelectric order parameters. The systematic evaluation of the electric polarization in the multiferroic phase below 5.5 K under various field cooling conditions reveals that small magnetic fields of 0.1 T significantly reduce the required electric fields needed to reach saturation.
Emergent spin-1 Haldane gap and ferroelectricity in a frustrated spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ ladder
Abstract We report experimental and theoretical evidence that Rb2Cu2Mo3O12 has a nonmagnetic tetramer ground state of a two-leg ladder comprising antiferromagnetically coupled frustrated spin-12 chains and exhibits a Haldane spin gap of emergent spin-1 pairs. Three spin excitations split from the spin-1 triplet by a Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction are identified in inelastic neutron-scattering and electron spin resonance spectra.
Prediction of major complications after hepatectomy using liver stiffness values determined by magnetic resonance elastography
Background Liver fibrosis is a risk factor for hepatectomy but cannot be determined accurately before hepatectomy because diagnostic procedures are too invasive. Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) can determine liver stiffness (LS), a surrogate marker for assessing liver fibrosis, non‐invasively. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the LS value determined by MRE is predictive of major complications after hepatectomy.
Genotyping of the ABCG2 gene using Matrix‐Associated Laser Desorption/Ionisation, Time‐of‐Flight Mass Spectrometry
The aim of this study was to evaluate the applicability of genotyping of the ABCG2 gene using MALDI‐TOF MS and to estimate the allele frequency in the Japanese population. Jr (a−) phenotype has a prevalence of approximately 0·05% among Japanese blood donors; DNA‐based genotyping was conducted to investigate the molecular basis of the Jr (a−) phenotype along with serological typing. To detect all SNPs of the ABCG2 gene, a high‐throughput SNP genotyping platform is needed.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the applicability of genotyping of the ABCG2 gene using MALDI-TOF MS and to estimate the allele frequency in the Japanese population. Jr (a?) phenotype has a prevalence of approximately 0·05% among Japanese blood donors; DNA-based genotyping was conducted to investigate the molecular basis of the Jr (a?) phenotype along with serological typing. To detect all SNPs of the ABCG2 gene, a high-throughput SNP genotyping platform is needed.
Transient brightening of Jupiter's aurora observed by the Hisaki satellite and Hubble Space Telescope during approach phase of the Juno spacecraft
In early 2014, continuous monitoring with the Hisaki satellite discovered transient auroral emission at Jupiter during a period when the solar wind was relatively quiet for a few days. Simultaneous imaging made by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) suggested that the transient aurora is associated with a global magnetospheric disturbance that spans from the inner to outer magnetosphere.
Potentially inappropriate medications in elderly Japanese patients: effects of pharmacists’ assessment and intervention based on Screening Tool of Older Persons’ Potentially Inappropriate Prescriptions criteria ver.2 - Kimura - 2016 - Journal of Clinical
The study was conducted at three medical units of Kobe University Hospital between April 2015 and March 2016. Pharmacists assessed and detected PIMs based on stopp criteria ver.2 and considered the patient's intention to change the prescription at the time of admission of each patient. If the pharmacists judged that benefits outweighed risks of prescription change and the patients consented to change the medications, they recommended the doctor to change the prescription.

The antitumor activity of lenvatinib (LEN) in combination with everolimus (EVE) in human renal cell carcinoma (RCC) xenograft models is dependent on VEGFR and FGFR signaling
Background: LEN mesylate is an oral multikinase inhibitor that selectively inhibits angiogenic or oncogenic kinase activities of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR)1–3, fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFR) 1–4, platelet-derived growth factor receptor–?, and KIT and RET proto-oncogenes. We previously reported that LEN + EVE showed significantly greater antitumor activity in human RCC xenograft models compared with each monotherapy.
