Eco-friendly alternatives to cyanide in the flotation of lead and zinc ore

ABSTRACT This study investigates sodium sulfide, sodium metabisulfite, and sodium sulfite as environmentally friendly alternatives to cyanide in the flotation of lead and zinc ores. Among the tested reagents, optimised dosages identified sodium sulfite as the most effective substitute. In the lead rougher flotation circuit at the Bama processing plant (pH 8.5), replacing cyanide with 600 g/t of sodium sulfite improved lead recovery by 2.5% and silver recovery by 1%.
