The grape plant hovers in midair—like a chandelier or constellation. A naked figure sprawls over the fruit, gently stroking the plant’s stem as he strokes himself. This is Ned Asta’s world: an abundant, erotic place plucked from the series of illustrations she drew to accompany Larry Mitchell’s 1977 fantasy novel-cum-political manifesto The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions. Leaning back in pleasure, the figure asks: what can liberation look like, even if we’re not yet free?
