Like all sporting events, horse shows have their own set of rules that shape the make-up of the various competitions. And the Shelbyville Horse Show is no different. There are 53 total classes offered in the 4-day event, ranging from one that is open only to children aged 10-and-under, to the highest-level championship and stakes classes that feature some of the world’s best trainers and riders of quality show horses.

On an unseasonably hot day in May, where does a long-haired cow go? To the pond, of course.Ken That’s exactly where the Highland cows were found at the TJ Highlands Farm in Pleasureville, standing chest high in cool water. Kristin Carmack and her daughter Tristin own the farm with many Highland cattle. Their friend, Tanya Wilson, helps. “The Highlands were kind of something my daughter and I started, and then, we kind of roped Tanya into it,” Kristin said.

Simpsonville City Commission: Big decisions to make for medical marijuana

Medical marijuana is a hot topic in Kentucky as the state prepares for the drug to be legally sold and produced in the commonwealth as of Jan. 1, 2015 to treat certain medical conditions, and Chelsey Brammell, a Simpsonville city attorney, presented options at the June 18 regular Simpsonville City Commission meeting. The state is currently accepting applications for these purposes, and the city is already receiving calls about potential licensing within city limits.
