Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is characterized by abnormal, involuntary, and repetitive movements of the face, tongue, jaw, trunk, or extremities. It is one of the multiple drug-induced movement disorders caused by dopamine-receptor blocking agents (DRBAs). DRBAs include both first- and second-generation antipsychotics and antiemetic medications such as metoclopramide and promethazine.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), once primarily used for predictive analytics and algorithms, is now transforming health care delivery. When implemented responsibly, AI can help address key challenges, from diagnostics to personalized treatment planning, which may improve patient care and outcomes. In post-acute and long-term care, AI can synthesize data, enhance decision-making, reduce risks, and support evidence-based practices that improve patient outcomes (Prev Chronic Dis 2024;21:240245).

Within the realm of long-term care communities, a concerning gap in research has left the topic of suicidal ideation and suicide completion rates largely unexplored. The complex interplay of factors affecting residents’ mental health in these settings has prompted a call for more comprehensive investigation. Current Research There is limited research on the prevalence of suicidal ideation and suicide completion rates in long-term care communities.
