Abstract We draw upon our own experience as educators who teach into the transdisciplinary sustainability field of environment and society to start to argue that, paradoxically, to prepare our students for a future in which AI will increasingly disrupt traditional professions, sources of information, and approaches to knowledge, it is incumbent upon educators such as us to ensure learners have the opportunity to develop certain core, critical human abilities.
ABSTRACT This paper engages with museological approaches that address the issue of climate change, drawing on an ethnographic study of an Australian museum to demonstrate tensions between stewardship of heritage and curating climate futures. We focus on two curatorial episodes at the Powerhouse Museum that capture diverse affective relations with objects, and Harrison and Sterling's (2023) idea of profaning heritage to re-orient audiences towards the future.
If you were to create the scent of a city, how would you do it and where would your olfactory messages come from? It might be the smell of fresh bread and coffee. Or a trace of brine in the air with your morning swim. The stench of bus diesel on the way to work, the gentle hint of frangipani on a summer evening or the memory of a pungent industrial odour from your old neighbourhood. Smell is one of the most powerful and important senses.
